Range
cosmopolitan (most spp. in the Palaearctic); in NA more diverse in the east, with the adventive spp. primarily restricted to ne. US & adjacent Canada(1)
Habitat
on plants in woodlands; P. appalachianus in leaf litter
Food
hosts include members of 20 plant families(2)
