CentipedeMillipede - Apheloria montana

CentipedeMillipede - Apheloria montana
Blood Mountain, Lumpkin County, Georgia, USA
May 19, 2012
I think this is a centipede, but it is rounder than most that I see. Also, the legs at the back end lead me to think it could be, in fact, a millipede. If you can positively identify which is it (not necessarily the species), that would be helpful.

According to Wikipedia, Blood Mountain is on the border of Lumpkin and Union Counties in extreme northern GA. Submission form edited accordingly.

Not sure where May Co. is in
Not sure where May Co. is in GA, but it has the color pattern of Apheloria virginiensis montana (Bollman) (Polydesmida: Xystodesmidae). Is it in the mountains of north GA, which is consistent with the known range of montana.

Moved for expert attention
Moved from ID Request.

Two pairs of legs per segment = millipede. Centipedes have just one pair per segment.

The experts will be able to take the ID further, so stay tuned.
