Great that you are making sense
of these guys (and gals)

Sorting...
I think I'm getting a handle on the gals (at least the adults & sub-adults), but a lot of the males and immatures have me confused! It's too bad that there isn't some way to get a diagnostic palp shot on a live male.

We seem to remember that
Kyron had figured out a way to take palp images of live spiders. You might send him a note, or maybe his techniques were posted here somewhere. Ah! It is linked on his contributor page

Thanks!
I'll see if I can rig a similar restraint system for use in the field, it looks like it should be do-able.

I haven't wanted to overload the guide with all my spider shots as I've been shooting just about every one of these little guys I come across, but I do have a lot of them up on flickr grouped by color morph and tentative ID in their own album: https://www.flickr.com/photos/44150996@N06/sets/72157648550454454/

Araneus bispinosis
I'm thinking she's an immature A. bispinosis, The anterior medial eye distances match those on the mature females I'm seeing currently.

Yes, looks like another montereyensis
and 5mm is a much better size. Nice finds!

Very nice
I think this female looks one molt from being mature... but I might be wrong about that. I don't have time to look more this morning but hopefully someone else will have more to say... and I'll have more time this weekend to study it more closely.

Thanks Lynette
Bugguide doesn't seem to display maturity status for non-leps. I was thinking immature on this one too.
