Green Stink Bug, found at a lighted wall, chilled and posed. Length was measured at 18 mm. This is a Green Stink Bug,
Acrosternum hilare, which is the most commonly found species of
Acrosternum (by far) in North Carolina. Brimley
(1) lists that species as widespread in North Carolina, but lists the other species, A. pennsylvanicum, only from the mountains. The shape of the pronotum (edge fairly straight, not strongly arced) agrees with the key for A. hilare vs. pennsylvanicum, Slater, figs. 73, 74, pp. 50-51.
(2) I'm therefore going to file these images under A. hilare.
Ventral surface shows details of scent gland which differentiate this genus from
Nezara, according to Slater, p. 50, figs. 70, 72.
