uknown worm/caterpillar with homemade home carried on back
Woolwich, Sagadahoc County, Maine, USA
April 1, 2005
Size: Cacoon w/bug 5/16 inches
There are many of these critters around and on my home. The worm "sticks" it's cocoon/home onto all sorts of surfaces and winters inside the homemade home. In the spring the worm travels around keeping its home attached (sort of like a turtle). The cocoon is almost always made of pieces of old pine needles and what seems to be dirt and bark. Please let me know what these little guys are.

Moved

Psyche casta
Moved from Bagworm Moths.
Not sure if the other two are the same species. If so, they have very atypical "bags."
