We came down from the salt lick trail and found this beauty resting on the ferns right along the trail.

Moved from Proctacanthus.

Proctacanthus
Beautiful female Proctacanthus. And there are only four in Idaho. This is not milberti or micans. It does not appear to fit Hine's original description of P. occidentalis. This leaves Proctacanthus nearno which is a widespread western species. I don't have its description. It is not a close match to the difficult specimen shot out there on the web however.

Stenopogon
Something did seem odd about the face. And I couldn't make it into one of the Idaho species of Proctacanthus. So to be sure I asked Dr. Fisher and he confirms it is not a Procta but a Stenopogon, in fact Stenopogon inquinatus. Idaho has about three. I forget about these guys since we have none in the east.

I will move the shots.

Thanks, Herschel,
for chasing this one down!
