California, Arizona, Florida; occurs in many warmer parts of the world, nearly cosmopolitan.

Though recorded in Florida by Heppner, the FSCA has no evidence of an established population - James Hayden (pers. comm., 4/22/2022).
Type locality: Liverpool, England.
Season
Heppner (2003) reports the adults year round in Florida.
April to December in California.

The larvae feed on fallen fruits of fig and apricot. They are also a pest of the dried raisins.

Raisins, cottonseed cake, cacao beans, cashew kernels and fallen mulberries.
Remarks
The species was first described from Liverpool, England where it was a pest of imported fruits.
