Next to the midrib of a Quercus macrocarpa leaf.

Unknown cynipid
These are definitely worth collecting. The only similar gall I see in Weld (1959) is an unidentified one on Quercus muelenbergii in Kansas. For the same gall to occur on Q. macrocarpa makes sense, but I don't think there are any cynipid galls known to occur on members of both the white and red/black oak groups.
