Hodges #8500 - Four-spotted Fungus Moth - Metalectra quadrisignata
Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida, USA
April 13, 2014
Size: winspread 21mm
At outdoor light. After consulting MPG, BG and Beadle and Leckie's Field Guide I am quite confident that this is Metalectra quadrisignata, but it being the first BG image for Florida, I would appreciate confirmation (btw, looking at posted images and my own photos, a "broad blackish band" across the median area of M. discalis may not be a conclusive distinguishing criterion as claimed on BG's Info page, but perhaps some posted images are in the wrong place).

Metalectra quadrisignata
Not having received any confirmation of my ID suggestion, I looked again at images of 8500 M. quadrisignata and 8499 M. discalis (in my opinion the only possible alternative) and decided for the former. There is much variability among both species, but what tipped the scale for me is my moth's essentially unspeckled basal area below the AM line.
