Xylocopa tabaniformis? - Melecta separata

Xylocopa tabaniformis? - Melecta separata
Between Yreka and Mt. Shasta, Siskiyou County, California, USA
April 14, 2014
Found visiting apple blossoms near my house. At first I thought Bombus because it is so hairy and large, but couldn't find pictures of any with the white on the abdomen in the pattern photographed. Also, the hairs on the legs didn't seem right for a bombus. Searching this site I found a couple of pictures of Xylocopa tabaniformis with similar markings, but not all pictures with that name had the markings. Is it a variation, or something else?
