Acronicta ovata? - Hodges #9249 - Eclipsed Oak Dagger Moth - Acronicta increta
Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida, USA

Size: ~17mm length
At outdoor light. Best match is with #9243 Acronicta ovata, including the two small tan spots below the thorax. Can I get a confirmation?

Moved from Ovate Dagger.

this is increta; ovata is muc
this is increta; ovata is much paler tan and lacks the olive green tints often seen in increta; ovata is probably only in the Appalachians / foothils in the far SE.

Not ovata after all!
Thank you, Chris, for your input regarding this post and your suggestion that it is of an A. increta and not A.ovata. I assume I can safely move the image to its new rightful place. Interestingly, no image is yet posted in BG for Florida but, unlike ovata, A. increta is actually listed in Heppner's Florida checklist. Now I can't help wondering whether my much paler "ovata" here is A. increta as well. I would appreciate your help with this one.
Thanks.

Amen, Brother
There's also, the slightly tan fill in the reniforms, the sharp anal dash and the inverted 'Y' formed by the AM and basal dash.

OK, then!
With your blessing I follow my judgment and move it to species, not afraid of possibly stepping on thin ice as A. ovata is not in Heppner's Florida checklist (and received no black dot in Florida on MPG's distribution map).
