Hmm...
You said you found the burrow in active agricultural fields? I am quite surprised because I would assume the continued tilling would actually force burrowing spiders to become injured. Now that you said this, I may have to visit some local Kansas fields to see whether I can find more Geolycosa. Thanks.

 
i was very surprised too
these spiders and burrows are smack dab in the middle of soybean / corn fields that are planted annually. I have attached a pic of the field. I suspect the spiders are deep enough to avoid the discs

I guess I need to start looking into the Ag. fields. In the past, I simply ignored them because I though burrowing spiders won't be able to reside there. I read a guide sheet awhile back about how H. carolinensis have drastically declined in Ohio due to agriculture.
