green treefrog & sawfly larvae
I think it was coincidence. I was photographing the treefrog - it never moved all day. The hibiscus was covered in the sawfly larvae and they moved around the frog. I never saw him go for one. That hibiscus is just starting to green out this year but I've already seen one green treefrog perched on the bare stem of a buddleia next to the hibiscus. This one never moved all day either - except when I rattled the plant to move a stem out of the way for photos. Sawflies are swarming but no larvae yet. I've got to dispense with the larvae this year to save my hibiscus ... but I sure don't want to hurt the treefrogs. btw we have about a dozen frog species in our yard here.

thanks
Thank you so much for the ID! I've got to prevent my hibiscus from being devoured this year and yet I don't want to hurt the frogs or other wildlife.
