Vinegar Fly - Leucophenga varia

Vinegar Fly - Leucophenga varia
Mobile (Dog River), Mobile County, Alabama, USA
April 27, 2014
Some of my Leucophenga have been ID'd as L. varia and some as L. maculosa. I can't tell the difference :)

Moved
Moved from Leucophenga.

Only Brad knows the difference
I can't tell either. There seems to be a continuum of markings from none to strong.

Difference
In L. varia, only the apex of R 2+3 is clouded. In L. maculosa, both crossveins are also clouded.

Admittedly, my previous determinations of L. maculosa appear to be incorrect. Not really sure what I was thinking at the time. All the images I had placed as L. maculosa appear to L. varia instead. L. varia is apparently more common than maculosa according to Wheeler.
