Formica sp. - Formica incerta - female

Formica sp. - Formica incerta - Female
Settlers Cabin Park, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, USA
May 1, 2014
Size: 6 mm (approx.)
These ants were nesting beneath a stone in open woods at the edge of a powerline right-of-way. I haven't been able to decide between pale Formica incerta, F. dolosa, and F. biophilica. I was thinking the mesosoma might be a bit too pilose, and the setae too long for incerta, but I hesitate due to lack of experience with several of these species. The F. incerta that I see in this region seem to be exclusively the darker, bicolored morph, and I have not seen any previously that were this pale. The soil was a bit damp under the rock, but overall, it ranges from moist to fairly dry and well-drained, depending on the location in the powerline. There is a boglike, Sphagnum-choked area further down the powerline, but I saw no ants of this species there.
