is indeed a good fit for these images.

Could it be Pterostichus tri*narius? That's a beetle in the mutus group, so the size of this one fits.

I've never seen this beetle myself, but one of the synonyms is Ptero. purpur*atus, and it looks purplish in the picture here (carabidae of the world).
