Clubtail ID - Phanogomphus oklahomensis
Lovelady, Houston County, Texas, USA

My best guess is that this is a Plains Clubtail, probably male. Can anyone tell me more certainly?
Thanks.

Oklahoma Clubtail
Phillip, it is a mature male Oklahoma Clubtail. Fairly common species in much of east Texas March through most of May. Fairly slender abdomen, mostly black on sides, with yellow along the edges of S-7-9. Not a very enlarged "club". A close view of the appendages would reveal some distinctive features not quite visible here, but it is a species I'm pretty familiar with. Ratcliff Lake Recreation Area,
Davy Crockett National Forest, near the location you took this shot, is a good place for this species in April and May should you wish to go back.

definitely male
Doesn't look like Plains. You'll have a better chance of an i.d. if you crop away all the empty space to give a bigger image of the dragonfly - use the edit button and replace current pictures.
