Cutworm Wasp - Podalonia - female

Cutworm Wasp - Podalonia - Female
Twin Falls, Twin Falls County, Idaho, USA
May 3, 2014
I watched these wasps hunting today. Only one made a catch, but I dug up 3 different areas that wasps had started to dig and found a cutworm in each area. I also timed one digging a burrow, 22 minutes from starting to dig until it brought the caterpillar. 53 minutes until it was completely buried and the wasp left. They often "cuss" while they work, making a buzzing sound when moving dirt with their heads.
