Glad I'm not the only one trying to figure these out
We live just a few miles from each other! I keep seeing these that are mixtus / flavifrons / sitkensis.

Revealing my taxonomic hubris
Glad to find someone with a similar quest and I'm impressed to see there are huntii and nevadensis so close by. I'm just upstream from Leach Gardens on the creek so I wind up being several degrees cooler than the rest of Portland. I spent last year with "Bumble Bees of the Western United States" and thought I was making accurate ID's of five different species I found. I'm redoing that work now. John Ascher deserves far more praise for his work and his patience.
Have you considered submitting to Bumble Bee Watch? I keep looking at their map to see what other people are finding. Hopefully it will get better as the year progresses.
