Got it in one! Although I can't find the key to Sphecomyia, S. vittata is the only species that's not exclusively western (according to the diptera.org Nomenclator).

It is a great wasp mimic. The wings do look more fly like though? I am still trying to learn it all. Beautiful colors, especially against the purple flowers.
