Xylotrechus mormonus (LeConte) - Xylotrechus mormonus

Xylotrechus mormonus (LeConte) - Xylotrechus mormonus
9-Mile, western MT, Montana, USA
June 1, 2012
Raised from Populus stump. Tree was recently dead and may have been an aspen (most leaves gone), possibly a cultivar planted in the campground on National Forest. Identification via photo by Rick Hoebeke: "I think this is Xylotrechus mormonus (LeConte) based on its dark (black) coloration, reduced bands on the elytra, and lack of markings on the pronotum and sterna. The listed host is Salix. These images compare well with specimens in the UGCA collection." (18 July, 2012 email) Have images of galleries, holes, etc. if wanted.
