Braconid or Ichneumon ?

Braconid or Ichneumon ?
Franklin County, Missouri, USA
May 7, 2014

Moved
Can't tell which kind of ichneumonid. A larger image may or may not help, but the BugGuid recommendation of 560 pixels on the longest side is detrimental.

Moved from Braconids and Ichneumons.

Thanks Bob
I didn't save the original image, otherwise I'd crop out whatever parts weren't needed for ID purposes. I was wondering if the antennae are necessary for identification? If not then I could crop them out in the future, since they are nearly as long as the body, so as to allow a bigger overall picture of the rest.

Antennae
I wouldn't advise cropping the antennae, and I certainly would discourage the discarding of an original image. Images can be as large as 3072x3072. If you are dissuaded from presenting images of that size because only the contributor and Editors can view them, there is also a solution to that issue which is followed by this person. In the case of your image, I was hoping to see the apical third of the forewing and the shape of its areolet or whether there is one or not.

Thanks
I didn't realize that anything larger than 550 could be submitted. That's good to know. I already have thousands of pics on my computer and external drives so I've become pretty selective at what images I save in high resolution, but I'll start keeping an original of the smaller individuals, at least until an ID is made.

I checked out some pics of the person you linked to and I don't really understand how he did that but I guess he linked his pics to an image storage site like Flicker or Photobucket. I'll try that the next time I think it would help make an ID easier.
Thanks again.

Bob, hope I'm not being a pest but thought you'd want to know.
I just now tried submitting a photo of another Ichneumon that is 2564x2728 pixels and when I hit the preview button I was shown this message.

"The image file you are trying to upload is too big."

I suspect that you have better ways to spend your time than trying to explain what I'm doing wrong so don't feel obligated to reply, just thought I'd let you know that I did try. Not very geeky here so I'm probably just not doing it right.

Two Limits
The limit for pixel size is apparently exactly 3072X3072, but there is evidently also a file-size limit that is apparently not precisely stated. Per the discussion here it is evidently between 1300K and 1800K.

That explains my problem.
My file size was something like 1.5 MB so way over the limit. I'll give it another try with the next Ichneumon I submit. Thanks for taking time to help me with that.
