red and black beetle - Megalostomis dimidiata

red and black beetle - Megalostomis dimidiata
Lake Corpus Christi, San Patricio County, Texas, USA
November 10, 2006

Looks like a leaf beetle
in the Cryptocephalinae. Maybe Rob Westerduijn or Mike Quinn will spot this and be able to tell you which one. Mike has done some great work online with the Texas Leaf Beetles. You may be able to track it down yourself by examining his online work.

Megalostomis dimidiata
Det. per Ed Riley. Mike

Does it feed on the grass flowers
or seeds, Mike, or is it just resting there?

Thought to feed on legumes
So it's probably just resting on the grass... Mike
