Initially I thought it was two moths mating but then I could see the mother using her muscles to push the baby out of her. I assisted slightly in the process and the baby flew away once free.

Moths lay eggs...
...which hatch into caterpillars. They don't give birth to adult moths.

This would be mating behavior.
