Ant - Formica neorufibarbis
N47.792686 W52.781753, Pouch Cove, Northeast Avalon, Newfoundland/Labrador, Canada
May 15, 2014
Size: 6 mm jaws to body rear
I was digging in the ground with a trowel looking for centipedes when I unexpectedly dug into an ant hill. I found the ants about 4:45PM and brought them home for the photos.

Formica neorufibarbis
Looks like Formica neorufibarbis to me.

In same colony...
Thank you for your tentative ID. Here's a link to another ant that was living in the same colony.
Formica neorufibarbis ?

I got them both in the same scoop of earth.  There were dozens of them running around once I disturbed the colony.  The soil was mostly rocky and moist which is why I was looking for centipedes but I noticed that the soil where the ants were was unusually sandy. Might this second ant help confirm your ID of Formica neorufibarbis?
