Leafhopper - Kybos luda

Leafhopper - Kybos luda
Montreal, Quebec, Canada
September 25, 2006
The picture was taken right on the shore of St-Laurence river. The hopper landed on my hand and choose me as a temporary host, I guess. After a few shots taken with one hand, I finally, but not easily, moved it to some vegetation. Leafhoppers are usually very shy but this one was not, indeed!

Empoasca luda
This is an European species that feeds on European birch, so it is often found in cities where this tree is commonly planted. Usually it also has dark stripes along the diagonal wing folds (the "claval sutures").
