Lone Star Tick - Amblyomma americanum - male

Lone Star Tick - Amblyomma americanum - Male
Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
May 17, 2014
I found this tick attached to me, and at first thought it was a blacklegged tick because of the small size. Is this just an early instar American Dog Tick?

Geolocation of attachment?
Tom, I know this was ages ago, but I am curious as to whether you feel confident that this tick came from somewhere local to Groton, or if you might have picked it up in the southeastern part of the state?

Groton area
I checked the photos I took on 5-17-14 and the two previous days. All those were taken in Groton and a few from Pepperell, Ma.
It looks like it must have come from this area.

Moved
Moved from Hard Ticks.
Thanks Jon.
