"Northern" Oak Hairstreak - Satyrium favonius
Weatherford, Parker County, Texas, USA
May 19, 2014
I'm having a hard time IDing this Hairstreak....all help is appreciated. Thanks.

This is an Oak Hairstreak - Satyrium favonius
Moved from ID Request.

The photos of the Northern Oak in Bugguide do not show a white 'spot' on the near center of the hindwing, as this one in my photo shows, and which is shown in my book as being on a "Southern". However, the Southern shows more orange (in the book).

Do these Butterflies cross-breed? Or vary in such things as having a color spot or not?

My book, Kaufman Focus Guide, Butterflies of N America, says the "Northern is: Styrium favonis ontario....would that be correct, with the "ontario"?
