Broad-tipped Conehead
Phil Chaon and I agree this is a Broad-tipped Conehead (Neoconocephalus triops). The shape and amount of black on the cone favors Broad-tipped. A similar species Robust Conehead (Neoconocephalus robustus) can be eliminated by the shape of the cone. Also, Robust Coneheads are much less likely to be found in south Texas. With great pictures, we are able to ID it!

thank you!
Wow, thanks a lot for the ID, I didn't get very far with my cone-research. Also, thank you for moving my submission to the proper place. This place is fantastic.
