Small banded bee on a DYC - Hesperapis - male

Small banded bee on a DYC - Hesperapis - Male
Dune area at northwest end of Guadalupe Canyon, San Bruno Mountain, San Mateo County, California, USA
April 20, 2014
Found in relict sand dune area, much of which is being taken over by weedy grasses. This bee is perched on a flower head of the showy non-native composite Chrysanthemum coronarium. I'm guessing this is a male. Looks like there are two submarginal cells, and the marginal cell is long and thin, extending significantly beyond the submarginal cells.

Moved from Aculeata - Ants, Bees and Stinging Wasps.

I wonder if this could be coastal dune bee Hesperapis pellucida? If so, an interesting find!

The expected non-minute Hesperapis inland in the Bay Area is H. regularis, strictly associated with Clarkia (was any present?)
