white-spotted spider - Dolomedes triton

white-spotted spider - Dolomedes triton
central, New Brunswick, Canada
September 5, 2004
Body length 10 mm; leg span about 35 mm; on dead reeds at edge of pond. Looks similar to Dolomedes triton in Guide but the images shown there are all from the southeastern States... does D. triton reach Canada?

Yes.
Pretty certain this is D. triton, which does range northward, and is truly a fisher spider in the sense that they seldom stray far from water, unlike D. tenebrosus. Nice image, Robin!
