Orthemis discolor? - Orthemis discolor - Male

Size: ~50mm
1 of 4 (tried to get various angles)

If this is C. discolor, and it just doesn't look like the usual Roseate Skimmer males, it would be quite a bit further east than typically found - according to Abbott's Dragonflies and Damselflies of Texas as well as postings on BugGuide.

Hung around all day on a patio table, allowed fairly close approach.

Agree with your ID - Orthemis discolor (male)
You might find these comparison images by Martin Reid - Orthemis discolor/ferruginea helpful.

According to the Odonata Central website - this species has been found in Harris and Fort Bend counties.

I did use Martin Reid's site to do the tentative ID, but as an amateur I'm never 100% sure.

After submitting this, I saw the record in Odonata Central for Fort Bend, but missed Harris.
