Skipper to ID - Ochlodes sylvanoides

Skipper to ID - Ochlodes sylvanoides
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
August 3, 2004
Would like any info on this skipper. Had a lot of these during the summer. Thanks

It is a male,
as shown by the characteristic black stigma (looks like a diagonal slash, with raised scales along its border) in the middle of the forewing. A good illustration with explanations is given here: 1.

Woodland Skipper
Nice shot of Ochlodes sylvanoides showing the field marks that separate it from the similar Long Dash Skipper (which doesn't reach the Pacific coast). The Butterflies of Canada site has photos and info on every species known to have occurred in Canada.

Skipper ID
