Spider - Metaltella simoni

Spider - Metaltella simoni
Houston, Harris County, Texas, USA
January 13, 2007
Size: 1 cm

Moved
Moved from Hacklemesh Weavers. Surprisingly there aren't a lot of spiders in Amaurobiidae listed for TX. According to my reference from 1972 the two species to consider are Titanoeca nigrella & Titanoeca americana. Other species found nearby are Callobius arizonicus, Callobius nomeus & Callobius olympus. Interestingly none of these species are mentioned on the TX spider list but one that looks similar is... Metaltella simoni. I think based on the TX Spider list & the general look of this spider that it is a Metaltella simoni.

Moved from Spiders.

Check sac spiders for a possible match. (Or wait for Jeff!)

We would think something
more along the lines of Amaurobiidae - Hacklemesh Weavers, see here, but definitely agree it's a good idea to wait and see what Jeff says!!
