Worm or centipede, lots of legs - Geophilus vittatus

Worm or centipede, lots of legs - Geophilus vittatus
Basking Ridge, Somerset County, New Jersey, USA
May 28, 2014
Size: 3 inches long
Wondering where it might have come from. Found inside the house on the second floor, in a bathroom. Pretty slow moving.

Moved
Moved from Soil Centipedes.

Geophilus vittatus
One of the more common species of geophilomorph centipede in the northeast, identified by its uniform body width and diamond markings running down the back. They are bolder in venturing above the soil layer than other soil centipedes (i.e., they are often found under tree bark) but on the second story house - that is unusual.

Moved for expert attention.
Moved from ID Request.

Soil Centipede. Others should be able to tell you more.

Not sure how it ended up on the second floor of your house--but pretty certain that it didn't really want to be there. :)
