clear-patch-winged wasp - Saranaca elegans - female

clear-patch-winged wasp - Saranaca elegans - Female
London, Ontario, Canada
August 7, 2004
A single individual seen flying slowly among a patch of wild grape beside a railway. I have no idea what kind of wasp this is but transparent patches in black wings was something I hadn't seen before (or since). Length about 10 mm.

Ichneumoninae

Probably an ichneumon wasp
This is probably an ichneumon wasp, but there are other families that have similar species, so I am hesitant to be definitive.
