Mayfly - Stenacron

Mayfly - Stenacron
Sykesville, Howard County, Maryland, USA
May 31, 2014
Patapsco Valley State Park, near a tributary of the Patapsco, wooded, free flying, landed on a companion, whose shirt is the background.

Stenacron is the genus 4 this one
"This photo is confusing to me"---- I agree Roger. It has a blurry factor to it. But I can clearly see some KEY features that I believe make this a Stenacron. I am seeing the signature black blotch in the forewing between the R1 & R2. Very fine transverse bands on the abdominal tergum, and most importantly the [ black oblique spots ] on the pronotum. As far as a species complex or species ID with just this photo that can not happen.

Is shirt material reflective?
Hi Kurt-

This photo is confusing to me, as there appear to be two mayflies in it. Is it possible that this phenomenon is due to the background shirt material being reflective?

Reply
The shirt was not reflective, it was khaki as I recall. I cannot discern a second insect. I'm sorry that the image is not crisper.

Leucrocuta
In any event, I believe it to be of genus Leucrocuta.
