Riodinidae - Calephelis muticum -

I’ve tentatively identified this as a Swamp Metalmark (Calephelis mutica). It was seen at flowers at the trailhead for the Coakley Hollow Fen Trail at Lake of the Ozarks State Park. I don’t think the median dark area looks as dark as photos I’ve seen of Northern Metalmark, but I also don't think I've ever seen a Northern Metalmark. Based on the wet habitat, I'm thinking this is a Swamp Metalmark.

Metalmarks

These can be very, very difficult to separate by dorsal photos. The dark interior border is not reliable. Food plant and habitat association is a much safer bet. In the central Ozarks of Missouri it would be news to find a new population of Northern Metalmarks. We have located several new sites in Arkansas but in the last publication of Heitzman and Heitzman's Butterflies and Moths of Missouri (1996)the only colony of Northern Metals in MO was in Barry county. This is likely a beat up Swamp. Always a very rare butterfly. In Arkansas there are no reliable colonies known presently.
