I was able to get a closer look
at this photo today and it seems to lack the notch along the anterior margin of eyes, suggesting that this is a Graphoderus instead. And the only Graphoderus of that size in our area is Graphoderus liberus, which has a pronotum completely yellow to reddish brown, without black markings. I cannot see that very clearly in your photo. If you could add a picture showing the insect head on or little sideways, that would help tremendously. Example

Good!
Now we can safely say that it is a member of the subfamily Dytiscinae because it lacks the notch on the inside margin of the eyes and that it cannot be a Rhantus.
By looking at the photos a little longer, I am more and more puzzled.
It could be a Graphoderus but I find the ventral color way too dark.
I'll play with it a little more and see if I can make up my mind.
Meanwhile, I'll move them to Dytiscinae.

Looks like Graphoderus
but I cannot say for sure with that picture. If insect between 8 and 13 mm then Rhantus but if over 13 mm, Graphoderus!
