The genus
Efferia has been split, apparently. (See Herschel Raney's pages on
Efferids.) Since I'm so unfamiliar with the taxonomy, I'm filing this image under
Efferia, at least for now. This fly is a male, obvious from the bulb at the end of the abdomen instead of an ovipositor. Herschel Raney identifies it as one of the
Pogoniefferia group, as opposed to a
Nerax, see comments. (So it should be P. pogonias, according to various checklists--see guide page.)
