Aptostichus atomarius - female

Aptostichus atomarius - Female
Santa Barbara County, California, USA
May 27, 2014
Size: ~2.5cm legspan
Found in sandy back dune habitat. A. simus and A. atomarius are the two species in range. This spider lacks the 150+ count of endite cuspules and the description for A. atomarius says that it's polymorphic in terms of habitat preferences. The males sent to Dr. Bond that were identified as A. atomerius were from sandy Burton Mesa chaparral habitat so substrate is not dissimilar.
