Fern Eater - Strongylogaster

Fern Eater - Strongylogaster
Sylvania, lucas County, Ohio, USA
June 7, 2014
They're eating my fern bed.

Moved from Common Sawflies.

Tenthredinidae, Selandriinae
Strongylogaster sp. What kind of fern?

Thanks, Dave. . . there are two species of fern . .
Cinnamon and Interrupted. The ostrich ferns are untouched. But the other two are skeletonized.

Thank you,
Larvae of Strongylogastr are not too well known. Only one species, Strongylogaster tacita, has been associated with cinnamon fern. There could be others, so still cannot be sure of a species id.

Dave, thanks for helping pin 'em down . .
It's just amazing the way you experts can lasso these critters and get them into the correct aisle based on a not-so-great photo.

Moved from ID Request. Moved for expert attention.
