Suspect Mordellistena liturata - no colour contrast
in pronotum / elytra

Falsomordellistena discolor (Melsheimer)
ID tentatively confirmed from specimen, now a photo-voucher. Thanks Lisa.

Tim, it does appear to be this species. Ridge count is 3,3,2. That and the pattern puts it at Liljeblad's couplet 47. Overall the integument is fairly reddish, not black in part as described, but the pattern seems to fit it pretty well. Did you get a chance to see the type photo before the MCZ site went down?

Also, it has the emarginate pro/meso penultimate tarsi and ovoid eyes typical of Falsomordellistena (per Lisberg 2003). The palps are somewhat obscured but also appear to be of the right shape.

Thanks
for your work Brad. It is very much appreciated!

discolor!
at long last, I believe you've found our elusive Falsomordellistena discolor! The elytra markings somewhat resemble M. liturata and M. masoni, but the ragged edge of the basal band is telling. I'd love to see any additional images you might have, or even better, the beetle itself.

You never know what you might find! And another new species for BugGuide :)

Wow
Thanks!
I am not for sure that I kept this one. If I did Brad has it. I will look for another one and send to you. I will have to check my pictures to see what ones I have.
