Explanation of Names
Gymnoclytia Brauer & Bergenstamm 1893
Numbers
Six described species in our area(1) but possibly more undescribed.
Identification
Medium-sized to small, brightly-colored flies found on flowers. Note fine hairs on abdomen, apparently not present on the similar Gymnosoma. Coloration is sexually dimorphic, with males covered in bright yellow pubescence and females cloaked in gray:

New World, incl. most of NA(2)(1)
Food
Adults seen at flowers taking nectar.
Life Cycle
Parasitoids--recorded hosts include Pentatomidae and some Lepidoptera(1)
