Fly on Euonymus - Stratiomys norma - Male

Possibly Stratiomyidae? Maybe male, based on the large eyes touching one another on top? First seen on a variegated cultivar of Euonymus sp, which was in full flower (here photographed on the lawn under that plant). These may not both be the same individual as there were many flying around the plants crossing paths.
