Ataenius dung beetle? - Ataenius gracilis

Ataenius dung beetle? - Ataenius gracilis
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
June 30, 2006
Size: about 3.5 mm
Wondering if the beetle had shined itself in the ethyl alcohol I recalled that I had taken it out of the alcohol, dried it, and re-shot it before packing it up to send to Don. Here is that image. I did this to be sure I was sending Don the beetle in the live photos. It looks like the same beetle to me.

better shot
no doubt this is shiny and of course no substitute for actually examining the specimen. Need to snag some Phyllophaga, Serica or that odd Anomala for positive ID after shooting in the wild.

I keep thinking about that odd A*nomala .
I meant to re-visit the elderberry bush last year where I encountered it but I never got around to it. Maybe this year.
