Snow Flea - Hypogastrura harveyi

Snow Flea - Hypogastrura harveyi
Harvard, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
January 24, 2007
These were seen scattered all around on the snow.

Moved

Thanks Frans
It's our first snow flea identified to species! I used my new 65mm macro lens, and I'll see if I can get good pics of other species.

Hypogastrura harveyi, close relative of nivicola
One of the more common 'snow fleas'.
Great shot, Tom! The chaetotaxy (the distribution of the setae) is well visible. Also note the 2 'anal spines' terminally, typically for Hypogastrura (and Ceratophysella).
