Looked through list for Canada and couldn't figure it out. I'll keep looking in the meantime though.

Moved from Semanotus juniperi.

Sorry to say, but this is not Semanotus juniperi.
Most likely a species of Callidium. Several are black.

I think it keys out as Semanotus juniperi (Fisher), since it has the metallic black elytra.

my best guess is Semanotus litigiosus...
...but the lack of pronotal callosities says i should've known better
Callidium frigidum is a somewhat similar beetle with no callosities, but it looks to be wider and flatter, like most of its congeners; must be that tribe anyway
