John and Jane, did you know that this image is still being used as an example image for the genus Misumena? I'm not exactly sure that Joe's comments (below) are correct. Please let me know what you think about this. Thanks

OK, I think that this spider's placement may be correct, but we still need to clean up the links on the info pages. Can you do that or do you need to contact others first? That may be needed to iron this out.

Also, after having looked at dozens of Misumena vatia and Misumessus, I'm inclined to retract all but note (4) from the Misumessus info page: http://bugguide.net/node/view/312515

Every Misumessus I looked at does have ALEs larger than AMEs, but sometimes not by much. Most Misumena vatia I looked at had ALEs the same size or *smaller* than the AMEs, but there are a few whose ALEs are technically larger, but by a hardly-noticeable amount. You might say that Misumessus has "noticeably larger" ALEs.

A decision was made for SNAIM 2 to drop determination based on relative eye sizes for several families, including Thomisidae, so you won't find support for this character there.

Misumessus

The epigynum is a match for Misumessus, not Misumena. Notice that the tongue protrudes posteriorly. The coloration and elongation of the abdomen is also suggestive of Misumessus.

Notice also that the ALEs and AMEs are subequal.
