Foul Mites

Foul Mites
Cleveland, Bolivar County, Mississippi, USA
May 30, 2014
Size: <1mm
Can anyone identify these mites. They were all over our bantam chicken pen, right after our hen hatched chicks. It's been a very wet spring, and I am uncertain of whether they are associated with the chickens or just a bloom of some sort of chigger.
I'm presently calling them "foul mites" (not fowl mites, as I'm not certain they are).

Nice image, but the features needed for an ID are usually so small we'd need close-up of various structures (see my images under Ornithonyssus sylviarum).
This may very well be O. sylviarum, or something darn-near close!

This is not a chigger!

Moved from ID Request.

Foul mites
Thank you - I didn't expect more than to genus. The bloom seems to have ebbed, and we have many additional interesting specimens emerging from our yard and animal activities. Entomology is so much fun!
Cheers!
